20th Century Joy

Ask me anything   Submit   ~ This is a little bit of me, and the things I love. I'm a community artworker and I create, style, sell and reinvent vintage, retro, recycled and re-made clothes and objects.

This is SUCH a cool idea..

[The most photographed/recorded generation ever? I think so..]

The Book Igloo by Miler Lagos

Using a couple hundred books and the amazing powers of gravity, Miler created this compact book dome which somehow, magically I think, supports itself. Are you a wizard?

Totally Awesome!!!

archiemcphee:

Meet Sobe the iguana and Johann the cat, both of whom were rescued before they struck up this rather awesome friendship:
“In fact, the iguana [also] enjoys spending time with several of Johann’s housemates, including Monte the cat and Buster the bunny. After his morning nap under heat lamps, Sobe is ready for his social life. ‘He clambers down the tree branch and makes the rounds, visiting every animal resident in the house: dog, twelve cats, and two parrots! Sometimes he naps with one or another of the cats; occasionally Cato the parrot perches on Sobe’s long tail, grooming him.’”
“The ties that bind are not always predictable—especially in nature. Jennifer Holland, senior writer for National Geographic magazine, has written a delightful testament to this fact with her new book Unlikely Friendships: 47 Remarkable Stories from the Animal Kingdom.” Now that you’ve met Sobe and Johann, you’ll have to check out the book to meet the rest.

The future is known

WHEN: Saturday February 25th 5pm - 8pm
WHERE: Firstdraft Depot 13-17 Riley Street Woolloomooloo

There is a Russian expression ‘the future is known, it’s the past that’s always changing’ How people remember time and place is often determined by fragments. Individuals remember their part in the whole.

Often that part is remembered to suit the present and changes over time. By bringing people from a specific time and place together The future is known will be an opportunity to re-remember the past anew, to bring together some of those fragments into a temporary present that will again feed and change the past.

Madeleine Preston’s residency workshop for Firstdraft’s Depot will attempt to remember a city and a state of mind through an exchange of work and stories about a particular time and place.

Artists, film makers, musicians and anyone with a memory of Darlinghurst, Woolloomooloo and inner Sydney in the 1980s have been asked to submit work for one night and to participate in a night of exchange.

The evening will include art, photography, graphics, film, writing, sound work and compilation tapes from:

Uri Auerbach,
Lisa Bloggs,
Graham Brown,
Megan Casey,
